CULLEN WINES IS CARBON NEUTRAL

Cullen Wines is located in the Margaret River region of Western Australia. The company has always had a legacy about caring for the environment. Initially starting in 1971 as a minimal chemical input vineyard, they then became certified organic and then finally certified biodynamic with the Biological Farmers Association.

The vineyard site at Cullens was carefully chosen for its potential to produce great wine, and in particular red wine.

In 2006, the Cullen Wines team felt an urgency to participate in the fight against global climate change. After investigating several green power options such as wind and solar they made a start by signing onto synergy natural power. In September 2006 they linked up with the not for profit group Men of Trees and donated over 1000 native trees which were planted to rehabilitate the WA wheat belt and sequester emissions from air travel and direct emission from fuel usage onsite. They were the first winery in Australia to make 100% of their air travel and fuel usage emissions carbon neutral.

They have now offset all remaining emissions through a partnership with the Carbon Reduction Institute, which includes embodied emissions in glass bottles, emissions from waste, emissions from freight, emissions from employee transport, emissions embodied in food sold in the restaurants as well as emissions from the use of Stelvin caps and corks.
